How normal it can seem to associate success with victory and achievement. To reward those who excel, while withholding praise for those who fall short. However, many of us do realize that we must face situations where success is difficult, and even impossible if we want to move on and improve our life.

The secret of joy is the mastery of pain.-Anais Nin

Challenges appear whenever there is a change in our life. Many people resist change because they do not want to break away from the moribund routine they have become used to and try something different.

They keep on making excuses to justify themselves and eventually blame others for their failures. We must welcome changes in life, and along with the challenges that life puts forward.

There are several challenges we need to face, some are huge that would make us wonder how to make a decision. Let us explore some of them, inspired by the writings in Inspiration Ministries founded by David and Barbara Cerullo in 1990:

The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.-Theodore I. Rubin

The first major challenge in life comes when we decide to leave home. Moving away from home is a huge change and poses several challenges. We have to contemplate our sense of responsibility; we will have to learn to take care of ourselves on our own; we will have to learn to provide for ourselves; and most importantly, we will have to exercise with utmost care and keep ourselves from ending up in any unwanted trouble whatsoever.

Getting our first job is another great challenge which we have to face in life. This is the first time we are going to become financially independent; we begin to earn on our own and no longer have to ask for money. Along with that, we move into the work culture. This is a huge transition in life and poses great challenges as it involves anxiety related to several aspects of our work, whether we like our work or not, how the people at work are going to be and so on.

Proposing to the person we love requires profound courage and confidence, especially when we propose for the first time. It could often keep people in apprehension for many days before and after the actual task. First, we need the guts to say it, and then, we may have to wait for a reply!

Coping with the death of a loved one is a huge challenge in life. Whoever it is, if we really love the person who just died, it will keep us thinking for many days. Death of a dear one is often known to change a person inside out, which happens due to a sudden vacuum one feels within oneself. This is a huge challenge in life and every individual has to face it; death of someone close teaches us the value of life.

Eventually we will come to realize that the fears that we had in life are in fact, mere phobias which we can overcome easily. People have several kinds of irrational fears: stage fright, fear of heights, fear of dogs, fear of travel, and so on. When we realize that we have all along been scared of something which is not scary at all, and that it was all in our mind, we will live life to its fullest. So, overcoming our fears is also a huge challenge we face in life.

We need to prepare to face the real world; to develop determination and resilience in the face of failure and frustration and learn the value of humility. God intentionally let us face opposition. He knew that we need to face challenges, to learn how to make decisions, and to make us realize why we need to depend on Him.

We may confront challenges in many ways. We are wise if we learn from others and history. But God still often allows us to face challenges ourselves that we might gain experience; deal with temptation and trials, rejection and failure; realize the fullness of His truth, and personally grow in our knowledge of Him.

Let us not be discouraged if we face problems, God does not abandon us; keep praying; keep applying His principles; keep trusting Him, and learn what He is teaching us.
