It is but normal for all of us to experience negative thoughts at times. It is usually coupled with anger towards ourselves which can hinder us from moving forward with our lives in a positive manner. I have learned, however, that by using negative thoughts as ladder to haul ourselves back to positivity, will remind us where we want to be.

The hardest struggle we will ever experience in this life is overcoming our own negativity.

The best way to deal with negative thought is finding a way to avoid it or looking forward to avoid negative thoughts in the future. Instead of blaming others for our predicament, let us take responsibility for what we can do. Our best friend is us. Negativity turns us into our own judge, jury, and executioner. We still remember certain mistakes we made in the past that others have already forgotten. We tend to ignore the most important lesson that each negative thought carried with it, just as we are our own harshest judge, we are also our own best friend.

I have also learned that instead of running in circles, finding ourselves guilty time and time again, we can try looking at the problem impartially, as if a friend is telling us about his/her problem and asking us for our opinion: What our advice be? Is it really a problem that cannot be overcome? When we look at an issue from the sideline, we can often find a solution more easily. We will find it easier to connect with ourselves and stop judging ourselves so harshly.

Many of our negative thoughts originate from the false assumptions that they are indisputable facts. We can be sure that there is a reason for our shortcomings. Sometimes we act a certain way because of a specific reason. The assumptions can be completely wrong, making them into the feet we use to trip ourselves over when dealing with future problems.

A negative mind will never give us a positive life.

Let us try reminding ourselves that in any negative situation, some things that we are not aware of and are beyond our control may have taken place. Remember that nobody is omniscient, but that is perfectly fine. Not all thoughts that begin in a negative tone are necessarily negative themselves. It may surprise us, but if we think about it, we will find out that it is indeed the case. Let us try and express as many negative thoughts in a positive way and we may find out that people who originally reacted to these thoughts in a negative way, would react to them differently after they understand the source of our fears or anger.

Let us move forward and stop collecting trash. After we have scrutinized our negative thoughts and learned as much as we can from them, we can divide them into negative thoughts that can help us, and those that are nothing but “trash”. In other words, let us not allow the trashy thoughts take up space in our head. They will only slow us down and make us feel unhappy.

No one likes to live in a house that is filled with trash, and the same goes for us and our mental space. Instead of punishing ourselves by preoccupying ourselves with these unnecessary thoughts which exact a heavy toll on our mental state, let us try disposing of them as soon as we can. If a negative thought pops up, treat it as a memo to clear our mind up and make room for positivity instead.
