When I
say I’m a Christian, I’m not shouting, “I’ve been saved!” I’m
whispering, “I get lost! That’s why I chose this way.”
When I
say, I’m a Christian; I don’t speak with human pride, I’m confessing
that I stumble, needing God to be my guide.
When I
say, I am a Christian; I’m not trying to be strong, I’m professing that
I’m weak and pray for strength to carry on.
When I
say, I am a Christian; I’m not bragging of success, I’m admitting that
I’ve failed and cannot ever pay the debt.
When I
say, I am a Christian; I don’t think I know it all, I submit to my
confusion asking humbly to be taught.
When I
say, I am a Christian; I’m not claiming to be perfect, my flaws are far
too visible but God believes I’m worth it.
When I
say, I am a Christian; I still feel the sting of pain, I have my share
of heartache that is why I seek His name.
When I
say, I am a Christian; I do not wish to judge, I have no authority—I
only know I’m loved.
What is a
Christian?
The New Testament says,“And the disciples were called Christians first
in Antioch.” --Acts 11:26 The ‘disciples’ of the New Testament were
followers of the Teachings of Jesus. So, to truly be a ‘Christian’ we
must live and practice Jesus’ teachings.
Church membership does not make us Christian any more than owning a piano makes you a musician.
Spending a few hours in a mechanic shop does not make us a mechanic nor
does spending a few hours a week in church building make us a Christian.
Jesus said, “If you continue in my word, then you are my disciples
indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free."
John: 8: 31-32
When
we look back and wonder how we ever made it thru the years, we realize
it's not because we've been clever.. but because God has been wise; not
because we've been strong... but because God has been
mighty; not because we've been
consistent... but because God has been faithful. |
